New Plymouth Airport (NZNP/NPL) services the Taranaki Region on the west coast of New Zealand’s North Island. The Taranaki region has a population of around 110,000 and is well known by visitors for its dormant Volcano Mt Taranaki in the Egmont National Park. Generally known by Kiwis as the “Energy Province” of New Zealand, the region has a very diverse playground such as surf highway 45, coastal walkway, Len Lye Centre and hosts WOMAD at the iconic Bowl of Brooklands and Pukekura Park. Taranaki was recently named 2nd top region to visit in 2017 by Lonely Planet. This is an area enthusiasts will love exploring. Simmers will enjoy the fact that New Plymouth Airport is infamous for crosswinds due to often strong SSE/SE wind. The main runway (05-23) runs parallel to the sea in a SSW direction.
